Invitation

DIE 3Dimensionale Baden 2026

Sept 17th-22nd 2026  in Baden near Vienna

„DIE 3Dimensionale“ is a series of events dedicated to stereoscopy. Stereoscopy is a special technique that gives an image a sense of space. As a unique and historic niche in photography, we are delighted that this year's La Gacilly-Baden Photo, Europe's largest outdoor photography festival, will also feature an exhibition of stereo photographs.

Stereo cards from 1860-1870 from the Stereoscopic Archive of Sir Brian May will be on display.

Les Diableries

Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell

In order to present these treasures to the public, a specially designed, contemporary ‘Kaiserpanorama’ will be set up behind the Kaiserhaus in the Kaiserpark in Baden.

Let yourself be surprised:  A modern Kaiser Panorama                         …What the Hell?…

A wonderful opportunity to meet up with stereo enthusiasts, visit the exhibition together and take part in other stereo activities and photo excursions in the surrounding area.

The Stereo Section of the phg also invites you to:v  Full-length 3D lectures with live presentations

v Among Lectures by Denis Pellerin on the collection and its history

v 3D Experience World – Look, Marvel, Take away

Ø Half-day excursion to the Hinterbrühl lake grotto

Ø Day trip to Lake Neusiedl with carriage ride and wine tasting

Ø Half-day excursion to Heiligenkreuz (Gregorian chant)

All details regarding the stereo activities, the final programme and registration options will be announced around 13 April 2026.

What is La Gacilly-Baden Photo?

The La Gacilly-Baden Photo festival is no ordinary photo exhibition, but an extraordinary, international and public art experience. It is being held for the 9th time and will take place this year from 12 June to 11 October 2026.

I have visited the festival several times over the last 8 years and can report the following:

The exhibition stretches across an approximately 7 km long open-air route through the city, parks, and gardens of Baden, making it Europe's largest open-air photo festival.

Around 1,500 large-format photographs from all over the world by renowned photographers are displayed in public spaces, squares, parks, and on building facades. Some of them are up to 200 square meters in size. One of the larger images in the festival in 2025 was even visible on Google Earth satellite photos.

Admission is free and accessible around the clock. In 2025, over 300,000 visitors were counted.

Each year, the festival has an overarching theme in which photographs illuminate the relationship between humans and the environment, culture, and nature.

The festival is held in collaboration with the original La Gacilly Photo Festival in Brittany (France) and brings this proven concept to Austria.

The motto of the 2026 festival is “So British”.

The festival is held in collaboration with the original La Gacilly Photo Festival in Brittany, France, bringing this proven concept to Austria.

As in previous years, this year's festival will highlight the state of our blue planet and showcase Austrian photography. Another focus is 200 years of photography – and that's where stereoscopy comes in.

While La Gacilly-Baden Photo Baden transforms the town into a huge public gallery for several months, DIE 3Dimensionale 2026 will be the stereoscopic highlight within this framework in September.

Look forward to:

    International photographic art

    Historical 3D imagery

    A modern imperial panorama

    Encounters with stereo enthusiasts

And a unique combination of history, art and space.
